An interesting confrontation as some Christians try to block a waiver of city noise ordinances in a heavily-Muslim Detroit suburb Detroit to allow the use of loudspeakers at Muslim daily prayers. A Muslim compares the amplified prayers to the ringing of church bells; a Christian quoted in the article complains at the idea of being forced to hear prayers from another religion.
I'll plead ignorance on the noise - the only place I've heard the Muslim prayer calls has been in the movies, which I suspect is a bit out of context. I am uncomfortable, however, with Christians who may be pushing this agenda to avoid exposure to the Muslim religion. This is the same line of reasoning - the cleansing of all public exposure to religion - that is being used to push Christians back into the catacombs. Of all the "exposures" that might be out of whack with my faith, devout Muslims praying is way down on the list of things to worry about.
