Clinton, Moore, Carville et al. --
Here's what you need to do to win . . . or at least survive . . . suggesions from the Great Divide.
1) We do not give a hoot about your opinon. Your agenda is laughable. Your elitist, patronizing attitude not only turns us off, it makes us your bitter unrelenting enemy. We will endure almost anything besides being patronized by rich elitists.
2) We do not care which party wins the next election. We care that you appeal to our needs and reflect our values. If YOU do not change, you will dive deeper into irrelevance until you no longer exist.
(Please continue reading below)
3) We do not totally endorse George Bush. But you give us no other choice that is even moderately palatable.
4) Don't deride Bush's allegedly "radical" agenda. Your own agenda is at least more radical to us than the Republicans'. While we don't totally agree with the extreme right wing, your own radical agenda is more frightening to us and more out of tune with our own vision of America.
5. Agree on the common ground. All true Americans want peace, prosperity and freedom, despite our disagreement on how to get there. Disagreeing with others' strategy is OK. Demonizing them, as Democrats have adopted as their Prime Strategy, makes us scorn you. You have offered us no plan, no vision and no results. "I have a plan," as John Kerry said so often, is not the same thing as having a plan. Put up or shut up.
6. Accept the position of the LOYAL opposition. Good losers are fellow Americans. Bitter losers are bitter enemies. I'm shocked that we have to explain this to you. Faith in the American system . . . and acceptance of the voice of the people . . . is crucial to the continued existence of American democracy. Your actions over the past four years indicate that y0u are an enemy of the American democratic process. Continuing this destruction of the process will destroy your own part in our democracy.
7. The greatest number of Americans are neither Republicans nor Democrats. Both parties have broken faith with the American democratic process. Both parties are in danger of extinction. Be warned. The greatest number of Americans do not trust you, and for good reason. You are dishonest, you are manipulative, and you are transparent. And we are not stupid.
